Gradual decrease of internet Speed!

I use Toshiba Qosmio F60-14R Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Here is how my problem starts:

Scenario 1:

  • After Turning on Laptop: Download speed from Rapidshare.com: MAX which is 480 KB/s
  • Surf Youtube for 30 minutes: Download/Internet speed from Rapidshare.com HALF which is around 200 to 230 even if I am no more surfing on browser!

Scenario 2:

  • After Turning on Laptop: Download speed from Rapidshare.com: MAX which is 480 KB/s
  • Surf different websites for one to two hours, Download speed from rapidshare: HALF!

Edit: Also I need to emphasize that not just download speed of rapidshare decreases, but my entire internet speed is reduced. No matter what I do, it will be slow. Buffering Youtube videos: takes ages when speed is already reduced. Surfing websites will take long, download from any website will be below 200 (sometimes 80 KB/S if I don't restart for hours)...

Now internet speed is ALL the way low and doesn't go up again, UNTIL I restart the laptop.

After restart, the same cycle repeats, until I have to restart again...

I tried:

  • Calling ISP few time. They guaranteed everything seems normal
  • Stopped services like Toshiba Power Saver, but still internet speed decreases in time...
  • In Power Options, I chose High Performance plan, and on top of that, in its advanced settings, I chose Maximum Performance for Wireless Adapter Settings, again, no results.
  • I updated the drivers for Network Card as well.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the router = Didn't help neither.

To me, it seems like an Operating System conflict with something which I don't know. It has to be related to OS, because when I restart, speed will be maxed. Plus, my father doesn't have my issues, and we both use the same wireless network.

Probably it has something to do with number of inbound connections which is limited to 10? (I'm not sure if I used the right terminologies or concept, I just heard it over internet - I hope you get my point).

What can cause such behavior?

I found a solution for this issue.

Press Start Menu and type: adapter

a list of icons will load in start menu. select:view network connections(don't confuse with view network computers and devices)

now right click on Wireless Network Connection and click Disable. Wait for a second or two and right click on it again, and select Enable.

This way there is no need for restart to gain maximum internet speed. :)

    Hello Palcouk,

I'll try safe mode with networking options tonight.

I use Bitdefender 2011 Total Security, I hope that's not an issue.

Once I go to safe mode with networking, I should see whether my internet speed decreases or not?

If it didn't decrease in safe mode with networking, do you suggest me to stick with it from now on? [Just curious].

    Thanks.

And what happens if you boot to safe mode with networking?

(Be aware that in this mode any AV will not be functioning)
