    Hi,

The error also means that there isn't enought power in the USB port where the device is plugged-in. I would suggest connecting the device to another USB port or use a USB hub that supplies it’s own power.

    Check if it helps.

    Update:

What I had to do was uninstall all USB controllers, restart my computer and then go back to Device Manager and set all my Generic USB ports and USB Root Hub controllers to disallow the computer to turn off the devices to save power by unchecking all four boxes so the message should not appear again. You can complete the latter step by right clicking on all the Generic USB ports and USB Root Hub ports, clicking on properties, clicking on the Power Management tab, and unchecking the box that says "allow this computer to turn off the device to save power". Please note that you will have to uncheck the box for each Generic USB Hub and USB Root Hub port individually to ensure that the message does not return. You may also go to Regedit and follow this path: HKEY_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/USBCCGP+USBHUB. Under both USBCCGP and USBHUB: Right click and click on New, on the new menu click on DWORD and a New Value field should appear. Now type in this new value field: DisableSelectiveSuspend and hit enter. Finally, click on the newly created DisableSelectiveSuspend field and click Modify; in the Value data box type 1 and press okay. Complete all steps for both USBCCGP and USBHUB.

    Hi,

Have you made any software or hardware changes to your computer prior to this issue?

To work on the issue, refer these methods.

    Method 1:

Run the fixit from the following link.

Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware\_device\_problems/en-us

    Method 2:

    Re-install the USB Controllers.

    a) Click Start and type devmgmt.msc, and then press Enter.

    b) Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllerssection.

    c) Uninstall each of the devicesunder the USB Controller section by right-clicking on each one, and then clicking Uninstall.

    d) Close the Device Manager and restart your computer.

Windows will automatically re-install the USB controllers in your computer, without you having to do anything further. Your computer should now run USB devices properly.

    Further,

I would suggest you open the event viewer logs and check for the complete errors.

    Refer: Open Event Viewer

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-Event-Viewer

    Also refer:

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

    Hope the information is helpful.

I fixed this problem differently on my computer.

The USB ports on the front of my computer seem to be recessed too far, and it's difficult to plug flash drives into them. Lately I've been getting the power surge error when I plug a flash drive directly into the computer.

I got around the problem by plugging a USB extension cable into the computer, and then plugging the flash drive into the cable. I leave the cable plugged into the computer between changes of flash drives.
