Hi,

At present I understand that there are 3 types of LCD screen in the market:

i.e.

1366 x 768  - Win XP

1600 x 900  - Win 7

1920 x 1080 – Win 8?

My experience is that 1366 x 768 screen has a better visual effect under Win XP (Intel Pentium 4 processor). If I change this screen to 1600 x 900 will it become even better?

Also I notice that 1366 x 768 screen under Win 7 (Intel Core I3- 2120 Processor) is not as good as it is under Win XP. Can upgrade it to 1600 x 900 give a better viewing quality?  What happen if upgrade it to 1920 x 1020 will it become even better?

What is the best screen for Window 8? Is it 1600 x 900 or 1920 x 1080?

Do Window has driver that automatically adjust the screen to its best performance if the screen is not upgraded after the OS is upgraded?

Thanks

Low

If you have set your resolution to the monitor-recommended settings and still don't like the display it is probably time to look at a newer, larger monitor that does suit your expectations.

    Higher resolutions make smaller fonts.

You can set the DPI up to 125 if they are too small.

Go to Control Panel > Display and set to Medium, or Large if needed.

On the left side is an option to set a  'Custom Text Size (DPI). Just move the slider.

The best screen resolution is the one supported by the monitor natively, it has nothing to do with the operating system.  No matter what version of Windows you run, the best screen resolution is the one recommended by the monitor manufacturer, usually found on a sticker on the monitor or on a sign when the monitor box is opened.  Any other resolution, no matter what operating system you run, will look strange.

The optimum resolution is not generally determined directly by the version Windows. Instead, each model of model of monitor has a native resolution which is its designed to work best at. You then need to have a graphics card that can produce a signal at that resolution.

You may find that you are unable to achieve certain resolutions on certain version of Windows due to the unavailability of suitable drivers.

For Windows 8 specifically, there are two requirements* that comes to mind

    • if you wish to use the Snap feature, you will need a resolution of at least 1366 x 768.
    • To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.

The best resolution is the one YOU can easily see, read, play, etc., with. It's not necessarily the native resolution of the monitor or anything like that. My 23" LCD monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080, but that makes things a bit small for my old, tired eyes, so I have it set at 1440x900. Great picture, and extremely readable without being overly large. When setting a resolution, be sure to keep the ratio as close to native as possible (4:3. 16:9, 16:10) in order to prevent distortion.
