Windows 7 Ultimate Devices and Printers "hangs"

Not really a printer problem, because trying suggestions from elsewhere I have removed all printers and scanned the registry and rebooted.  But the print spooler service hangs (frequently) and this means when I open Devices and Printers even with no printers installed, the green bar just floats along and never completes.  I am in Windows 7 Ultimate, with all updates applied. It was suggested I uninstall service pack 1 and reinstall.  I did, to no avail.  Now since it cannot be the actual printer devices since I have none, what is hanging the spoolsv service?  If I stop it and restart it, then Devices and Printers comes up.  I want to resolve this before I attempt to reinstall any printer drivers.  Hints?  Trails?  Guesses?  Fantasies?  How could I get an updated version of spoolsv in case that is corrupted?

    Hi,

Please upload the CBS.log file to skydrive and provide us a link to it, so that we can assist you better.

Note: The location of the CBS.log file is available at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

Also, try the following steps and check if it helps.

    a. Click on Start, in the search box type in Services.msc and hit enter.

    b. Right click on Bluetooth Support service and select Properties.

    c. Under the General tab, set the Startup type to Automatic.

    d. Under Service Status click on Start.

Thank you for your notes. I have no experience with that feature so I would not have known about it.  Now, following your directions, it says at 92% complete, that it found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.  It referred me to  the log file, which I examined with Notes run as Administrator, but in all the comments in the file I could not decipher clearly what the issues were.  What do I do now?  Shy of a complete wipe and reinstall, is there a recovery?  I do have a back up from a few months ago before this problem happened, but I have restored from it once thinking that would resolve the issue and it didn't so I suspect the corruption is older still.  I'd rather reformort and start from scratch then try to do restores from before that.

You can check for corrupted system files.  Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above doesn't help. Click START, then type CMD in the search box, right-click CMD.EXE and click Run as administrator. Then from the command prompt type sfc /scannow.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

    Fazil,

Thank you for your time and efforts on my behalf.  My tower/desktop system, which does not have bluetooth on it that I am aware of, had the Bluetooth service set to automatic.  I recently tried disabling it as I read somewhere that was a "fix".  But not so.  I uploaded the CBS.log file to my skydrive, and I hope I am about to post a link.

When the Devices and Printer screen begins the green bar march, if I restart the Print Spool software, the page comes up "immediately". Also, I ran SFC on the specific file for the print spooler and it says no issues.

Thanks again for trying to help.
