What is postgres.exe?

what is postgres.exe?  It is using up 50% of my CPU and maching is running hot.  Just started doing this.

    I think that postgres.exe is a safe process which belongs to PostgreSQL database system. I think that you can un-install this from the Add or Remove Programs.
