Windows reports 0.0.0.0 as DNS server

Windows 7 Home Premium

I've tried two routers because I am getting errors like Page not found in Web browser and errors for email etc. I've traced this to the DHCP dns server being 0.0.0.0 by using IPconfig /all. To get around this I am using a LAN cable and manually configured TCP/IP v4 settings. How do I fix this properly so I can use wireless and DHCP settings.

Thanks,

J.

    Thanks,

I've left the LAN setting as static. If  I use DHCP (Dynamic) Windows 7 internet access works for a few minutes (maybe an hour) then the DNS server reverts to 0.0.0.0. The fix I can find is to use static settings. I've tried two different routers.

It's on the computer side, not the ISP side. The router is the DHCP server and DNS server for the local LAN. If you were talking about dial-up or a USB broadband modem (no router) then you would be correct. For example the gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the DNS server is 192.168.1.1 but Windows 7 is reporting the gateway as 192.168.1.1 and the DNS server as 0.0.0.0.

Contact Your ISP for the correct IP's of their DNS & DHCp servers.  Those are where you point your router.
