    Hi Genesareth,

Thank you for posting the question on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are unable to update KB2685811 on windows 7 computer. We are here to help you and guide you in the right direction.

Is this issue specific to KB2685811 update? Are you able to install other updates successfully?

    You can try these methods:

    Method 1

    Run the windows update troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

Method 2: Reset windows update components.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, chkdsk tries to repair that sector. Any data available on that might be lost.

Important : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hope this information helps.

Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Im really grateful for the suggestion but unfortunately it didnt work.

When the computer booted up after following your suggestion it said 100% complete which got my hopes up.  Shortly after it said `failure to complete and that it was reverting.

This is the only update outstanding.

Back to Microsoft for a fix!

I have tried all of these fixes  spending hours trying to do so.

I am not a techie and I run the risk of causing more problems then I solve.

Can Microsoft please fix this update problem as soon as possible????????????

Just run "winmgmt /resetrepository" under command prompt (start > run > cmd > winmgmt /resetrepository) then run the updates straight after and it will work.
