I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 home basic 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

    Hello,

Please try to start the service sysmain which is also known as Superfetch and check if the problem still persists.

Method [1]: Using Microsoft Management Console to start a service

    • From the Start menu, Insert the following into the search box: services.msc
    • From the right pane, Right-click Superfetch and select Properties
    • Change the Startup type to Automatic and click on Start
    • Click on Apply to save the settings

    Thanks,

    Have a great day :)

    Hey Gaurav,

Is there a particular reason you would like to use ReadyBoost?

On a Windows 7 Home Basic, 64 bit machine, you should have more than enough RAM to perform all your tasks. ReadyBoost was designed to assist machines with low amounts of RAM, typically around 512Mb, which hovers on the base requirements for running Windows 7 and Vista.

If you have more than 1.5 Gb of RAM, ReadyBoost may actually become obsolite.

Additionally, if you use a USB 2.0 Flash drive with ReadyBoost, it actually reads slower than the average Hard Drive. and thus only helps minimally with the Systems ability to read and write data. A USB 3.0 Hub and USB 3.0 Flash Drive may help, but in most cases if your computer already has USB 3.0 hubs, it probably also has at least 4GB of RAM.

check out these links for more information! Cheers!
