Is it possible to to use the XBOX 360 controller without the receiver?

I have a Windows 7 64bit laptop and I've installed the Xbox 360 wireless controller driver. My question is Can I use one(only one) controller without needing the receiver? I know that for 2 to 4 controllers i need a reciever, but does the PC connect with one  controller?

    Apart from the issue, how are you doing today?

    You want to know if you can use the Xbox controller without the receiver. This can be really frustrating for you and I appreciate the efforts that you have put in. Let us work together as a team and try to get this issue fixed.

    2)    Have you made any other changes on the computer?
