Please help! My PC just went unresponsive and both my monitors went black and nothing I do will make the pc respond. Even when I press the num lock key, the light doesn't change. The PC has had no other issues and nothing was recently installed. The hard drive light in the corner isn't blinking or illuminating at all. I don't want to do a hard shutdown but it looks as if I have to. I am using my other computer to post this but any help, preferrably quock would be appreciated. Could my hard drive be going bad?

If you can't get into Task Manager via Ctrl\Shift \Esc ,  or  Ctrl \ Alt \ Del then you'll have to press  the reset button. If you can get into Task Manager you can end the Application that has crashed.

Nothing wrong in doing a hard re-boot. That's why the button is there. Sometimes you just gotta do what....

The worst that can happen is you loose unsaved data from an application you had open at the  time of the crash.

When you re-boot Windows will give you alternatives to launching Windows normally, but for a one-off I would just go for a normal launch.

Black screen crashes are a common thing and can be caused by many things.

What were you doing at the time ?

btw - Double posting is naughty - Kenny ....

I have put a new power supply in just recently. It did not fix the issue. I have also formatted and upgraded to windows 8 since.

I hear the fans spinning up. For cleaning, I use the compressed air to blow the dust out every month or so. The video card is a year and a half old so it shouldn't be bad. Sometimes I do get a message that the filmware may need updated. How does that work?

    Hi,

First of all how long do you use your PC?

Second do you hear a buzzing on the fan or CPU?

If you use your PC long ago maybe 3-2 years its time

to clean the insides or maybe buy a new video card

Yeah, I ended up doing a hard reboot. I was just idling my system for about 5 minutes. Nothing would respond. No lights would change like the yellow one up top. I'm guessing thats hard drive related. I did have a hard time restarting because I have other issues sometimes. click on my username and go to the questions I asked to see them. But the issue hasn't happened since. What exactly could have caused this?
