Just upgraded my (TOSHIBA TECRA A4) laptop to Windows 8 and the ATI Moblity Radeon X600 display adapter is not detected by the system. Instead there is a standard Basic Microsoft Display Adapter with poor results. Does anyone know how to fix this? I did try to uninstall this adapter but it gets automatically reinstalled. I have also tired Windows Update but with no results.

I attach some system info below

Hardware information

Name AMD Radeon Graphics Processor

Manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

Device ID 0x5462

Vendor ID 0x1002

Class Code 0x030000

Revision ID 0x00

Subsystem ID 0xff10

Subsystem vendor ID 0x1179

Thank you

I have managed to find a solution and this may be applicable to other users.

Step 1: Go to http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/home.aspx and search for your display card.

Step 2: Once you find the list, select the appropriate driver for windows 7 (WDDM) which are compatible with windows 8.

Step 3: Download it. Run it and extract it to a specific folder.

Step 4: Then go to Control Panel, then System, then Device Manager, then Display Adapter and right click Update device software.

Step 5: Select Browse my Computer for Driver Software. In the next window select the folder where you have extracted the driver. That will solve the problem.

For my 32bit laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon X600 I selected the "ATI Technologies Inc. driver update for MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)"

    Hello,

Thank you so much you all for the information provided on this thread ! I enabled the proper installation of windows 8 on my Asus W3V laptop.

To sum all the details for easier retrieval on search engines, and in order to help the non-geeks (I'm an half geek only myself):

    • exact model is Asus W3V-H019P, model W3H00V
    • the native resolution of its screen is 1280x768 pixels
    • the video card of this laptop appears as being the "ATI mobility radeon X600". It has 256MB of memory instead of the usual 128 MB of the X600. It must be a sub-model of some kind.

Step 1 : download the driver

    • the drivers to download can be retrieved here: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/home.aspx
    • search there for "mobility radeon x600 wddm"
    • 4 results appear, all for Windows Vista (it's ok for Windows 8 finally)
    • Skip the 2 "X600 SE" downloads, and choose between the 2 other ones: the x86 and the amd64 versions are provided ; you need to click on  the title of the driver: a pop-up will appear and tell you which version it is.
    • download on your desktop the version according to your computer OS. If you make a mistake at this point, nothing bad will happen, it won't install anyway.

Step 2 : install the driver

    • I found a more simple way than above
    • extract the .cab file (double-click the file, select all the files and copy them to a new directory on your desktop for example)
    • Look for the "atiilhag.inf" file, right-click on it
    • When the installation has finished, right-click on you desktop (not on an icon, on an empty space), select "Screen resolution" and change it to "1280x768"

    You're done!

I hope all these details help, I just tried to help back in the way I could since you saved me here. ;-)

    Hi Praseetha K Nair

    Thank you for your reply.

Before anything I did a clean install of W8. When the computer was set up, I could see the ATI Mobility Radeon Card under devices but that was it. Shortly after, It was no longer listed under devices.

Solution1 did not work at all. I have attempted Solution 2 but the available driver with TOSHIBA is the old XP one. When I changed the compatibility to Windows 7 and tried to install it, I got back the following error message: INF error. Video driver not found

    Any other ideas or help?

    Thank you
