    1. Rename it to a .rar file
    2. Unzip it

    Worked for me

    Hi,

This is really an interesting issue.

    1. Have you run easy transfer and used the easy transfer cable?
    2. If you have not used that, then how have you copied it to another laptop?
    3. What cable are you referring to?

If you  did run an easy transfer, try changing the file extension to .mig and see if you  can restore it.

To change a file name extension, follow these steps:

    a. Make sure that file name extensions are visible. To learn how to do this, see Show or hide file name extensions.

b.Right-click the file you want to change, and then click Rename.

    c. Delete the file name extension, type the new extension, and then press Enter.

    d. Windows will warn you that changing the file name extension might cause the file to stop working properly. If you are certain that the extension you typed will work with the program you're using, click Yes to confirm the change.

To help, we need to know what kind of program was used to create the file.  Or in other words, what program should be used to open it?

The reason I ask is this:  take PowerPoint files for example.  They usually end with .ppt in the name.  If that part of the name is lost, your computer won't know how to open the file.  You can try choosing all the other programs in the world, but unless you knew that it was only possible to open in PowerPoint, you'd never get it to open.

It's the same situation here:  if we know what kind of file it should be, we can restore the ability to open it.
