How do I share files between different user accounts on the same computer?

Hello

On my computer I have set up 3 user accounts that only I will use: Main admin, Spare admin and Standard. I am trying to follow the security advice of using the standard account for day-to-day use. I cannot however work out how to share the personal data files and folders between these accounts.

I have tried, for example, in the Main admin account right clicking on My Documents then Share with then Specific people then adding Everyone to the list and giving Everyone read/write permission. However when I then look in My Documents on the other 2 accounts the documents from the Main admin account don't show up.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

    Hi,

Are you getting any error messages while trying to share files?

You may try the below steps and check if this helps.

    1. Right-click on the file/folder which you want to share.
    2. Select Share with option.
    3. Now select Specific people.
    4. Now in the file sharing window select the user accounts with whom you want to share file with and click on Share button.

The problem has finally been solved.

A little analogy, a friend shared his bank account permission with me. But that doesn't mean money has been automatically transferred to my account. I still need to locate the correct bank and correct bank account number to get his money.

The Share with Specific People tool is usable and suitable to select certain folders  to share between different users in a same computer. The reason why I couldn't access the folder was I did not know the path to it, thinking it would just pop out in My Documents.

So here's what went wrong at first.

I had created Homegroup. Next folder Share with> Specified People (it is easy to just choose other users from the drop-down list) >Share

Although the folder has an indicated status of Shared, the pop out window for confirmation of shared is missing and so the link(path/account number) did not appear. This problem occurs because the folder has already been shared in Homegroup. I tested it out, if  folder is shared with nobody AT FIRST, the link and instruction to copy link will appear.

If you must have homegroup, you can still get the link by right click folder Properties>Sharing; you will see a network path something like this \username-PC\Users\username\Documents\foldername.  Copy this link and create shortcut in the recipient user account. Tip: instead of relying on emailing link, i saved the links on notepad and saved txt. in Public Folder temporarily.

Thankfully the shortcut shared link works for downloaded app too. Oh yes, another tip, if you come across suggestion on Access Permission by going to Properties>Security, don't use it as it is complicated.

For your information, I use Windows 7 Home Premium.

If you find my sharing (pun intended) for doing the above useful, please give a thumbs up response. I'd be glad to know it helps.
