What is the difference between a USB Human Interface Device and a  Bluetooth HID Device? Is there a difference? Different connection?

My desktop computer shows the wireless mouse and keyboard connections in both locations. I thought I had to use the receiver that came with the mmouse and keyboard kit when I bought it and now i see it installed in both locations under the Device manager. What does this mean?

    Hi jimafia,

First things first, make sure you have the software on hand just in case you need it later.

If they are the exact same drivers, it is possible they have been installed twice, but the bigger issue is how many usb devices do you have connected?

You can check and see when they were installed in the properties of each driver.

Bluetooth has been updated a good bit up to now in 2015.

Make sure your transceiver dongle is a new version as they are more reliable. Laptop bluetooth are built in at the factory or are in the wifi card on new models. Some times they can be replaced. I added a dell bluetooth 370 card in my e6500 laptop and found the 380 software that works with windows 10. You can also add in a USB bluetooth dongle for all your bluetooth phone, mouse, keyboard, headset, etc. I recommend a good brand name with full driver and technical support. Bluetooth has a good advantage over other dongles, because you do not have to match brand names of the dongle and device like keyboard /  mouse. Any bluetooth device can work with other brand dongle or transceiver provided the bluetooth drivers stack is working properly. Several bluetooth devices can all connect to one dongle at the same time.

Internal bluetooth on the laptop does not require all the usb ports to be used up with several dongles.

In my laptop, the usb ports are not working, I use a bluetooth mouse. Dell Broadcom software for internal bluetooth chip, Logitech setpoint keyboard mouse software, and a Dell / Logitech mouse. Only because of the two new software, was I able to use the mouse. BT 380 software and Set Point for the mouse, keyboard.

The biggest advantage is that they are old as dirt and only cost a few bucks each; they run perfect with new software and windows 10 on this 2008 C2D @2.5 GHZ laptop. Yes, it was a pain finding the new software. However, problem solved and I am very pleased.

Wikipedia has some helpful HID articles. (Human Interface Device).

Thanks Anoop, I purchased the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 7000 and Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 in a kit with one plug in type USB receiver. I'm trying to determine if I need to use the USB Receiver or if my computer already has Bluetooth receiver incorporated in the system. I have a 5 year old desk top computer running Windows Vista.

I see the mouse and keyboard listed twice in my device manager and I don’t know if I have installed the Bluetooth twice. Can I delete one of the connections if it is installed twice?

    Hi,

Thanks for asking this question in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you need to know the differences between USB Human Interface Device and a Bluetooth HID Device.

It would be grateful if you could answer these questions. This will help us in a better way to get a resolution for the issue.

What is the make and model number of wireless mouse and keyboard?

In computing, the USB human interface device class (USB HID class) is a part of the USB specification for computer peripherals: it specifies a device class (a type of computer hardware) for human interface devices such as keyboards, mice, game controllers and alphanumeric display devices.

A human interface device or HID is a type of computer device that interacts directly with, and most often takes input from, humans and may deliver output to humans. The term "HID" most commonly refers to the USB-HID specification.

Normally all the USB devices will be appearing under USB Human Interface Device. Some USB devices act as Bluetooth devices as well. So it may appear under Bluetooth HID Device as well.

Hope it helps. For any further Windows related assistance, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.

    Thanks.
