    1. Go to Control Panel

    2.  Search for ‘Device’ in search of Control Panel.

    3.  Select ‘View devices and Printers’.

    On iPhone:

    1. Turn off Wi-Fi
    2. Turn on Hot Spot (Settings > Personal Hotspot)
    3. A prompt appears and select "Bluetooth and USB only"

    On Windows 7 laptop:

    1. Install iTunes so iPhone USB driver is installed.
    2. Connect PC to iPhone via USB.
    3. Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings (on left panel)
    4. Disable Wireless Network Connection
    5. A new connection appears called "Local Area Connection 2". Below it should says "Network". Then you are done.
    6. If it says "Unidentified Network", follow this procedure: Double click "Local Area Connection 2". Click "Properties". Select "...TCP/IP4" and double click. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically". Selectd "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Click OK on all. Select "...TCP/IP6" and repeat the same procedure if "...TCP/IP4" doesn't work.

Thanks a lot for this good suggestion. In my case the solution was only that i did not install iTunes. The iPhone hotspot only works from a PC when iTunes is installed. It also installs the proper driver for the phone in Win 7.

I now use my iPhone hotspot via USB for my desktop and it functions as wifi router for other devices simultaneously.
