I'm hoping some crackerjack techie can answer this question.
Many USB drivers are not being installed when the device is plugged in. This problem has been going on for several weeks now.
Right now the biggest problem is the lack of a keyboard. I'm using a netbook computer to remote in to this computer so that I can use it and trouble shoot.
I've tried many solutions to this problem but nothing has worked. I'm continuing to troubleshoot as time permits.
My only question for this post is this:
How do services like Windows Update and web pages like MS Support determine what version of Windows is running on this machine? AND how can I fix this?
The reason I ask is that I have seen several indications that my Windows 7 Pro is being seen as a Vista machine:
- Windows Update will not auto-install missing drivers.
- Several places at MS support pages for Windows 7, the web page notes that my OS version doesn't match the page I'm on.
- References in some driver .INF files have a _vista suffix.
- I get the same response at HP's web site, too.
