Trying to download and play the game "Ib" but getting error DirectDraw Error (DDERR_UNSUPPORTED)

I've recently bought a Windows 8 Dell and haven't done much with it, nor do I know anything about Windows 8 since I'm fairly new to it. A have tried to download and play the game "Ib". (This may include some other games later on), and every time I open the RPG_RT file to play the game I get the DirectDraw Error (DDERR_UNSUPPORTED). I haven't found anything involving Windows 8 to help with this error, nor am I a technological person. So if anyone has a clue as to what I could do with this small situation I am in would be helpful.

    I actually think it's because we use Windows 8.

    I went to the RPG_RT.exe, right clicked it, went to Properties, Compatibility,

    highlight the Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows Vista.

    It worked for me, hope it helped :D

    It looks that you are having tough time in playing the game "Ib" as you are getting error “(DDERR_UNSUPPORTED”.

    Before we move towards the troubleshooting let me ask you few questions to you.

    1. Are you getting this error with this game or you are getting this error with all the games?
    2. Were you able to play this game earlier on previous version of Windows?

    I would like to request you to please go through the following link to check the App compatibility. Here you can easily identify what will or won't work with various versions of Windows. You can use the site to know the product compatibility with Windows 8.

    If it shows that this game is not compatible with Windows 8 then you need to install the game in compatibility mode.

    Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

    a)      Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.

    b)     Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.

    c)     Tap or click the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click OK

    Hi TiffSmith!

    I'm not a worker for Microsoft, but I do know my way around some RPGs!

    I've found that if you click 'Extract' instead of Run on the RPG_RT file, it stops the error and helps run the game. After you extract it, make sure to scroll down until you see another RPG_RT file and run it.

    Make sure you have the version of the RPG maker it runs on installed.

    I've never downloaded Amnesia on my Windows 8 though, so I can't help you there. Sorry.

    Hello, I have the same problem as TiffSmith. 

    I tried to make the game application compatible although, the game would now say "The File or cannot be open"

    It seemed like the game was running smoothly for a second. The mouse cursor changed into a different one.

    Side note: This game has worked properly on other windows computer. Though, I am not quite sure which computer.

    I am still having trouble with getting my game to work. I haven't tried any other online downloaded games, so. no I have not received this error with other games, though before when I had windows 7 I had not been able to download the same game (I got much further into downloading it this time), and I was unable to download another game called Amnesia: The Dark Decent.
