Vinod, I tried all of your suggestions to no avail and finally ended up calling Microsoft Chat Support. A very knowledgeable tech, Urso U., promptly found the problem. Since Windows 8 was seeing all my neighbors WiFi networks, he immediately zeroed in on my router settings. Well, it seems Windows 8 does not like the 802.11g "enhanced" mode which my Motorola WiFi Cable Modem was broadcasting. By just changing this one setting and uninstalling and reinstalling the RealTek WiFi Adapter in Device Manager (to reset its settings), my laptop in now happily running on my home network. Thanks to all!
Windows 8 will not list my home wifi network
Just installed Windows 8 on my HP Pavilion dv7 laptop that was running Windows 7. It now will not list my home wifi network and if I try to enter it manually it says it is already there. How do I get it to recognize my network?

I uninstalled the RealTek adapter but how to I reinstall it?
In Device Manager click on the "Scan for Hardware Changes" button at the top in the Menu Bar, and the RealTek adapter should be automatically reinstalled. Hope this helps.

2015-09-24T09:54:55+00:00 I faced the same issue, the above solution for fixing the channel to 02 works in the modem configuration.
- Login to the network(Get connected to the network) using another laptop/ desktop which has windows 7 / linux / OS X
- Once connected open a browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press enter
- this takes you to the modem / router configuration page asking for a user ID and password
- Usually or by default the user ID is admin and password is admin / password
Login to the router configuration
- Click on Interface setup tab / link based on your router
- Against the Channel setup - choose '02' instead of 'auto' from the dropdown.
- Save the configuration change.
Now check your wifi - you should be able to see your wifi!

2012-10-28T04:26:43+00:00 Hi,
Thanks for posting in this forum. I understand that after installing Windows 8, the WiFi network is not being recognized. I have listed some methods below, try and check if it helps to fix the issue.
Method 1:
Run the Network troubleshooter and check if the issue is resolved.
a) Move the Mouse to bottom right corner and select ‘search’.
b) Select ‘Settings’ and type ‘Troubleshooting’ and then press enter.
c) Select ‘Network and Internet’ and click ‘Network adapter’ and then click next.
Method 2:
Update the network adapter drivers and check if that helps.
a) Move the mouse to bottom left corner and right-click on the ‘Start’ icon.
b) Select ‘device manager’.
c) Expand ‘Network Adapter’, right-click on the adapter and select update ‘update driver software’
Method 3:
If the issue persists then remove and add the wireless network again and check if that helps.
Step 1: Remove the wireless network.
a) Move the mouse to bottom right corner and select ‘search’.
b) Type ‘Network and Sharing Center’ and press enter.
c) In the Tasks pane, click ‘Manage wireless networks’.
d) Right-click the connection you want to delete, and then click Remove network.
e) In the Manage Wireless Networks - Warning dialog box, click OK.
The connection is removed from the list of wireless connections that you can view or modify.
Step 2: Add the network.
a) Click on desktop and open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon in the notification area.
b) In the list of available wireless networks, click a network, and then click Connect.
c) Enter the security key. You can either type in the key or insert a USB flash drive that contains the security key into a USB port on the computer.
Let us know the status of the issue.

2013-09-25T21:43:12+00:00 Thanks very much! Had the same problem with the modem supplied by Tele2 (Davolink 2020) on my Toshiba Satellite C875-14w; my network connection was not listed in windows 8, while it WAS seen by other devices.
recap solution step by step:
connect a LAN cable from laptop to the router.
in a webbrowser go to http://192.168.1.1/ >> wireless >> advanced >> set "AP Isolation" to OFF
Then reinstall the wireless network driver:
lefthand down corner > right click >> device manager >> network adapters >> wireless LAN driver (exact name depends on computer specifics) >> write down the name of the driver, because you need to reinstall it later!! >> uninstall the driver >> with the LAN cable still in the router let windows find the driver for you, or, if that does not work (as it did in my case), take your notes and go online and search for the drivers manually; usually brands of computers have driver support on their website >> download and reinstall the drivers...
.... et voilá!
