    i had the same problem,

    turned out it was a Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver

    go on the sony support website and under downloads/drivers, under system components, please download the sony firmware extension parser device driver and it will install and remove unknown device.

    Hi, i have just the same problem now.

    My wi-fi conection is unstable, sometimes it works and sometimes no.

    Any definitive solution??

    That unknown device has been like that since I put Windows 8 on my laptop, VAIO x64 Sony laptop.

    @ Method 1: Unknown device doesn't have a driver.(Red X)

                        Hardware changes might have not been detected(yellow exclamation point)

    Error Code 28 errors is caused by a missing driver for that particular piece of hardware.

    It would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further.

    Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

    I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

    Run the hardware troubleshooter. Follow these steps:

    a)    Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

    b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

    c)    Click hardware and sound and run the hardware and device troubleshooter.


    Method 2:

    I would suggest you to download the drivers from the manufacture website and then try to install.

    Intel Download Center: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

    Note: If there are no drivers available for Windows 8, I would suggest you to try to install the program and drivers in compatibility mode and check if it helps.

    a. Download the latest drivers from the manufacture website, Right click on the setup file and select Properties.

    b. Click the compatibility tab, tick the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows.

    I would suggest you to update the chipset drivers and check if it helps.

    É amigo, eu não sei se esse problema é da Intel ou da Sony, Eu tenho o mesmo problema com o Sony Vaio VPCF236FM e o Windows 8 Interprise 64bits. já tentei de tudo q possa imaginar e a sony so enrola com atualização inúteis, esse problema já tem tempo e eles parecem não estrarem preocupado com quem ja tem um sony vaio. só querem vender mais.
