Don’t give up! Microsoft Cinemania is a great piece of software, and should work under Windows 7. I have Windows 7 64-bit and use Cinemania ’97 all the time without any problems.

I recommend copying the program to your hard disk before installing it (that’s what I did, that way you don’t have to go and get the CD-ROM every time you want to use it). To do this create a folder in your shared documents folder (C:\Users\Public\Documents) called ‘Cinemania 96’. Copy everything on the Cinemania CD to this folder and then run the installation file from there.

Otherwise, you could try running the program in compatibility mode, or using a virtual PC (such as the windows 7 windows XP mode or the free program VirtualBox).

What happens when you try to install Cinemania? Do you get any error messages? Let us know, if you provide more details we might be able to help you.

Most older programs cannot work with Windows 7, especially some programs for Windows XP, possible that you might need to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate if you are not running either edition and download the free Windows XP Mode program which will allow you run older programs:

    Running Windows XP Mode requires:

    1. Windows 7 - Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise (Not supported in Home Premium).

Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC

No. I don't think that Microsoft Encarta etc CDs from that era would load into Vista even.

I used to have the Musical Instruments CD which was excellent, but could never get it to run..
