After using this computer for 7 months (bought it new last November) and iTunes worked perfectly well until one day it stopped displaying the device option( the one that shows what iPhone or I pad..etc you got connected) and then you can sync the devices. but this went missing and iTunes could not re-download it.

I have contacted Apple support and gone through all options to remove and re-download iTunes.. but didn't' work. Each time, after downloading most of the programme - it stops to give the following message:

iTunes: Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Please help

OK I'VE GOT IT!!!! with the help of reading through the previous posts above.

    heres what i did:

    1. run the add/remove program (control panel).
    2. uninstall ALL Apple programs (itunes says to start with itunes, then quick time, bonjour and then finally AMDS (apple mobile device support). you might have to close the add/remove program and open it again so that AMDS will not appear on the list.
    3. RESTART/REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER!!!
    4. go to itunes.com, download the newest version, save it to your desktop, RIGHT CLICK the icon and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
    5. when itunes is done being installed, **DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT** click finish just yet.
    6. plug in your device (iphone, ipod) to the USB cord, you'll see a window pop up in the lower right hand corner...that is your computer searching and installing the device driver.
    7. after the driver is installed you can click FINISH on the itunes installer.

I too am having the same problem - My new ipod was working and then I got this message also.  I deleted and re-downloaded and then got the same error message.

I went to the link page and it was not very helpful or clear as to what I should do next except to say that I had to ensure all related components where deleted and it was unnecessary  to keep removing and redownloading.

I am at a loss now as how to get my Ipod and itunes to reconnect.  Please can I have some more advice on this isse.

    Hi,

    1.       Did you make any changes to the computer before the issue occurred?

I would suggest you to follow the steps from the link below and check if it helps.

**Method 1:**How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

**Method 2:**If the issue persists then****set your computer in Clean Boot state and check if the same issue occurs.

By setting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow Step 7 in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

    Hope this information is helpful.
