Found several other posts dealing with this and finally found another one that had a useful suggestion. I have a Logitech mouse. Someone suggested making the button change in the Logitech control panel. I left the Windows Control Panel set to a right-hand click, then opened the Logitech panel. I selected the left button and a box that said to switch. I haven't rebooted yet to see, but am hoping this works. Will come back and say if it worked or not.
left handed mouse use - every time I boot, I have to manually switch primary & secondary mouse buttons. Can't I set it for a left handed user default?
I am tired of having to manually switch. Am using Win 7 Home Premium on an HP Athlon

2015-11-15T19:03:17+00:00 Hi everyone,
Excuse me for sounding extremely fed up here.
I know how to switch to left handed! It's not like it's the first time I've had to do this on every single PC I have ever had! What I need is for it to be permanent and not reset to right handed every time I switch on again!
I'm just using the touch pad for now and I would like to use the buttons on it. Got to say I am underwhelmed with this new windows 10 laptop.
Any (permanent) ideas please?

2011-07-31T06:06:17+00:00 Hi,
You may follow these steps:
- Click once on the “Start” menu button which is located on the taskbar.
- Find the “Control Panel.” Click once on it. The “Control Panel” window will popup.
- Click twice on “Mouse.” The “Mouse Properties” window will pop up. You will see six tabs. One tab will have the word “Buttons” on it. The next tab will have the word “Pointers” on it. “Pointer Options” will be written on the third tab while “Wheel” will be written on the fourth tab. On the fifth tab, “Hardware” will be written on it. The sixth tab will have the word “Device Settings” written on it.
- Click on the “Buttons” tab. You will notice that the “Buttons” tab has three sections. The first section is called “Button configuration” while the second section is entitled “Double Click Speed.” “ClickLock” is the name of the third section.
- Look under the “Button configuration” section. You will see two options with small circles in front of the options. The two options will include: “Right-handed” and “Left-handed.”
- Select the small circle in front of the option that reads “Left-handed” by clicking inside the small circle.
- Click the “Apply” button at the bottom of the “Mouse Properties “ window.
- Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the “Mouse Properties” window. Your computer mouse will now be configured for left-handed use.

2013-01-07T10:54:09+00:00 Same issue as the OP. Every time I have to log out or reboot, the mouse settings revert to right-handed click. I change it to left, reboot, and it's back to right again. Every time. I've searched in several places and haven't found any answers.
arctictern, this is from long ago, but maybe you'll see this. I'm having the same problem and it's very annoying. Every time I have to reboot, I have to change this again. As with you, I know where to change it, but I shouldn't have to. I didn't have this problem until Windows 7 was installed.
If anyone else has had this problem and has resolved it, please let me know.

2011-07-31T13:56:33+00:00 Thanks for the instructions. But what I am looking for is a method that will not require me to go thru these steps every
time I start the computer. I would like a way to make left handed option the default when I start up a session.
