I cannot see any photos in the DCIM folder of my iphone 4 when connected to my PC.

When I plug my iphone 4 into my PC I get the auto play box appear and I can get into the phone as a device but when I try and open the DCIM folder it's empty (there are something like 600 photos on my phone). I downloaded and iexplorer program from a 3rd party which I have used but it only lists the files by name and cannot preview or thumbnail the images which is annoying when you only want a couple of specific images. I have plugged my friends iphone into my PC and there are photos in the DCIM folder. Have I configured my iphone incorrectly

    Here's what worked for me:

If your screen locks on the iPhone/iPad, and if it was locked while you plugged it into your computer, then the DCIM folder that typically contains all the pictures on your camera roll will be empty (security). Unlock and plug it back in to USB.

Thanks for the reply, no additional apps installed for the camera, all files are showing in the camera roll and itunes is loaded on the PC. The only way I can view these files is by using iexplorer and then all files are visible!

    It's always something simple!!!

This has been annoying me for ages, thank you so much for your help.

Problem solved, unlock the screen first before plugging in the USB!!!!

Thanks to everyone who offered help and advice.

Have you downloaded any alternative apps like Camera+ which is very popular and doesn't automatically add files to the Camera roll ?

Are the files showing up in the pictures Camera roll ?

Do you have itunes downloaded on the computer ?
