I have ASUS laptop n56vz with USB 3.0 ports inbuilt. I tried to reinstall with windows installation management. Nothing of above mentioned helped (I didn't try Method 3: Check if you are using the Fresco Logic FL1000 USB controller).

Then I deleted the USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller drivers and nothing seems to be a problem at the moment. There are no errors and hardware detection doesn't show any new hardware devices, which I find very strange...

Thanks anyway for your help and posts. I will let you know, if there will be any problems regarding dirvers erase.

    Best regards!

I could not find this specific device driver on the intel site, or on the dell site for my specific PC.... so I called dell, the rep put the latest driver for the wireless controller (gave him control of my PC, so I don't know the specific name) and that fixed it for me.  He actually used a tool available on intel.com which checked my PC for drivers and looked for updates automatically.  It found that wireless one and for some strange reason that resolved it.  Good luck everyone.

As reported on another thread by someone else.... it would appear that if you change your PC date to 2012 and reboot, the issue goes away.  Putting it back to 2013 and rebooting, it reappears.  In my case the internal camera on my Dell Inspiron makes use of this driver and stops working when it is 2013.

    Hi,

We are glad to know that you have chosen Windows 8 and thank you for asking this question on Microsoft Community.

It seems that you have some trouble with the USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller on your Windows 8 computer. It prompts your to reinstall the drivers and the reinstallation doesn’t fix the issue.

Let me have additional information about the computer.

    1)       What is the make and model of your computer?

    2)       Does your PC have the USB 3.0 ports inbuilt or are you using a USB 3.0 controller card?

    3)       If you are using a USB 3.0 controller card, then who is its manufacturer?

    4)         How did you reinstall the driver for the xHCI USB Host Controller? Was it downloaded and installed from the manufacturer’s website?

Let’s first run the Hardware Troubleshooter and check the issue.

Method 1: Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues with it and provides the details and on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter.

    a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b)       Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

    c)       In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

    d)        Click on “Hardware and Devices”.

    e)       Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.

    f)        Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

In Windows 8, the Microsoft-provided set of USB 3.0 drivers (USB driver stack) work with most host controllers. So, let’s check the Windows Update for any new driver updates available and run it, if the troubleshooter is not able to find any issues.

Method 2: Check the Windows updates for any latest driver updates.

Check in Windows updates if any drivers’ updates are available for the connected devices. If so, install the same and check if it helps.

    a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b)       Type “Updates” in the search bar and click on “Install optional updates” from the left pane.

    c)       From the “Windows Update” window, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates and install all the updates listed there.

Method 3: Check if you are using the Fresco Logic FL1000 USB controller.

Microsoft USB 3.0 driver stack does not work with the Fresco Logic FL1000 controller. If you are having the Fresco Logic FL1000 USB controller, then download and install drivers from your PC or controller card manufacturer.

To determine, if you are using the Fresco Logic FL1000 controller, follow these steps:

    a)       Press “Window Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    b)       Select “Device Manager” from the list to open it.

    c)       Search for “Universal Serial Bus controllers” from the device list and expand it.

    d)       Double click on the device to open the controller properties.

    e)       On the “Details” tab, select “Hardware Ids property” in the list.

    f)        If the hardware ID starts with “PCI\VEN_1B73&DEV_1000”, it is the FL1000.
