After installing Windows 8 on my Asus Zenbook 32VD, i tried to install programs such as drivers and whatnot to the laptop. However i find that all the programs that are install will not complete (the installation status bar doesnt complete at all). Upon checking the task manager i find that the windows installer is showing no signs of activity. Can anyone help me on this issue?

    Hi,

I am unable to install software like mozilla firefox and bit torrent 7 on my windows 8 ultrabook although i used the compatible versions of the same. I checked the windows installer service which was not running. So i started  it, but still the problem persists. Please help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sweta

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community Forums. I understand that you are unable to install programs on windows 8 computer.

The issue description seems a bit unclear and I would like to have a better understanding before we start working on it. I would really appreciate if you can help me with the following information.

    1. Which programs are you trying to install?
    2. Do you receive any error code/message, when installation fails?

    Check the windows installer service.

    a. Press windows key + R and type "services.msc" in the run box and press enter.

    b. In services windows check for windows installer status.

    c. If it is stopped, click on the drop down menu and click on automatic and click on start.

d, Check the status of the issue.

I was mainly trying to install driver updates for my laptop. I did not receive any error codes..sometimes the program would simply stop after a long time with a message saying the installation was taking too long and would now stop.

I checked the windows installer service, before any installation it is set to be manual. Is it meant to be that? I cannot find any option to change it to automatic. Perhaps when i try installing a file again i will see if the option pops up! Thanks!

This seems reasonable as a solution. However, I cannot change the status on Windows Installer to "Automatic' as this area is grayed out as are many other properties.

    Solution?

I can't download anything on my Windows 8 Laptop. My Downloads will show the installer files for programs such as Adobe Reader 11 or Spotify, but they will not open. I will get a status wheel and an indication of something starting, but never do I see a window to start the install process. Shall I just do without all software and programs, or will Microsoft fix this problem? I foresee many unhappy customers in the very near future.
