Hi j.i.c.,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
In order to help you better please provide us the following information:
- Did you make any recent changes to your computer?
- Do you face this problem with all the audio files?
- What is the MAKE AND Model of computer?
- Did you try to change the playback speed from Windows Media Player?
To fix this issue you can follow these steps:
Method 1:
Run the built-in troubleshooter for recording audio, you may refer the below link: Open the Recording Audio troubleshooter:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Recording-Audio-troubleshooter
Method 2: Adjust the clock timing for your sound card.
a) Select start and then select control panel
b) In Control Panel, open Sounds and Audio Devices.
c) On the Volume tab, in the Speaker settings area, click the advanced button
d) In the Advanced Audio Properties dialog box, click the Performance tab, and then adjust the Hardware acceleration slider control to adjust the clock timing for your sound card.
If your sound card supports multichannel (5.1) audio playback, turning off hardware acceleration (by moving the slider to none) will cause the sound card to play all multichannel audio in stereo (two speaker) sound.
If you can't fix the problem by adjusting hardware acceleration, you can check with the computer manufacturer for an updated sound driver.
Step 2: Perform Clean Boot.
To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 8 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
