I guess my post was confusing. What I currently have is an old Dell Desktop computer (32-bit), Dimension 2350, running Windows XP, with a Dell flatscreen monitor. Someone gave me a Gateway GT5678 64-bit Home Premium. In trying to find out what might be still on the 64-bit, I connected it to my current monitor but kept getting "no signal from computer" but nothing else. Therefore, I have no idea what might be on the Gateway 64-bit computer or how to fix the issue if I can't "see" anything. Could it be that the Gateway has, according to the label on the case, HDMI and Video ATI Radeon HD? I would hate to have to go buy a brand new monitor just to find out that I could possibly use this one. It is only about 3 years old but I was given this also and I have no paperwork for it. Thx.
Monitor not working with 32-bit running Windows XP computer
Original title: 32-bit to 64-bit help
I was recently given a Gateway 64-bit computer. The person said he was shipping it stripped clean, whatever that means. Anyway, I now have a 32-bit running Windows XP. The new computer supposedly had Vista. The problem is, my monitor is not working with the new computer connected, so I don't know anything. What can I do? I'm not close to the person who gave me the computer because he is a gamer that my son converses with on Google Talk. At this point this computer is useless to me, even though it was a nice thing for this guy to do in giving it to us for just the shipping. I'm pretty much a novice with pc, all my experience has been with mainframes. Thx.

2012-12-20T14:10:44+00:00 Hi Dee_Lot,
It might be disappointing when the monitor doesn’t work with the new computer that you have got. I do understand the inconvenience.
Let me see what best I can do for you to get this issue fixed. It would be better if you can answer the following questions so that we can proceed with the troubleshooting steps.
1) What is the model number of the computer?
2) What is the make and model of the monitor?
3) What exactly happens when you connect the monitor to the computer? Do you get any error message like “No signal” or do you see any lights on the monitor?
4) Does the computer work fine with any other monitor?
It seems that the person who gave the computer to you has installed Windows XP 32 bit operating system on the computer instead of Windows Vista computer.
You may refer these articles for checking the version and type of Windows Operating System installed on the computer**.**

I would suggest you to download and install the video card drivers from computer/video card manufacturer website and check to see if the problem persists.
