    • Hold down the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt) and hit the Pause Break key
    • Examine what is listed in the System: section regarding your service pack level
    • Your XP version should also be showing (Home/Professional and bit version)

XP 32 bit should hopefully be saying Service Pack 3

XP 64 bit should hopefully be saying Service Pack 2

Let us know if you are not at the latest service pack for your XP version.

I don't have Windows Xp installed, I forgot to mention that in my post.

Microsoft windows Xp service pack 2 version (5.1.2180)

Can the version be easily identified with the above entry?

Just to say, I have found what I was looking for, and that you may also like to know as well.

While writing this question, I wasn't sure of what I was looking for, however, while researching for an answer I came across it eventually.  I wasn't looking for the version of XP, simply I was looking for the build number.

    1. Build number of all Windows Xp is 5.1.2600.
    2. Service pack 2 version number (2180)

nevertheless my headache was solved, while answering my own question. Furthermore I apologize for any confusion and headache I may have caused all of you,

    regards

How does this pertain to Windows Update functionality?

PS: Yes, WinXP SP3 is the latest & final Service Pack.

Microsoft windows Xp service pack 2 version (5.1.2180)

    Two mutually conflicting statements!

Carry out the steps in my previous post and let us know what the results are.
