AVG Internet Security keeps "blocking" Windows updates

I'm running Windows XP Home SP3 on my machine. I recently fought off a rootkit/trojan infection(s). My AVG Internet Security v9 is running and updating fine...something it hasn't been doing in a month because of the infection. My Windows firewall and automatic updates are turned on. (Something that also was turned off during the infections.) I've gone to the Microsoft website and downloaded/installed 43 critical updates (The infection had turned off auto updates). However all the time I was downloading and installing the updates my AVG kept popping up with a blocking message:

"au.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/crup/2012/07_467626d3805abcce3d926b85d8928a20d5edc05b.exe"

(I kept closing the notification window and downloading/installing the updates. All of them went through.)

My Windows security shield has an exclaimation point on it.

Is this is some kind of conflict between AVG and the Windows updater?

PLEASE HELP....this is driving me craaaaazy since it pops up every 20 seconds or so!!!

Thanks so much

LuniLadi

    Hi LuniLadi,

I understand that you are unable to install Windows updates on the computer because of AVG Internet Security. I do understand the inconvenience.

If AVG Internet Security is blocking the updates, I would suggest you to temporarily disable the security software and try to install the updates. Make sure to enable those security software's on the computer after checking. If disabling the security software resolves the issue then, please contact the specific security software manufacturer to resolve the issue.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this information is helpful and let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Anoop P K,

Thanks for the suggestion about turning off the antivirus software! I didn't turn off the whole program (which would be "reisdent shield" on AVG). I turned off the internet portion (online shield) since it constantly popped up during the update downloads.

Sure enough....that did the trick. Updates downloaded and installed.

That portion of the virus program is turned back on.

So far, so good. Automatic updates seems to be downloading and installing without any interference from AVG Internet Security.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

    Doreen
