Hi

I am not computer savvy so please answer in basic terms. I have an .apk file I want to put on my computer, when I do there is nothing in the folder. Upon some checking, alot of checking tells me that .apk files are not compatible with windows 7.  So how do I do this & get the program to run on my computer?

Filext lists four different applications that use the apk extension - .

Active Tutor Project (4C Media, Inc.), Android Package (Open Handset Alliance), GameSpy Arcade Service (IGN Entertainment, Inc.) and Train Simulator Packaged Activity (Microsoft Corporation)

An apk extension file is DATA not a program. You need to install the PROGRAM that this file was originally created with, either from a disk, or downloaded from the internet.

apk files are designed to run on the Google Android operating system which is used on smartphones and tablets. You need to find a version of the program that runs on Windows, if it exists.

If there is no Windows version of this program, you could install an Android emulator like this: http://developer.android.com/tools/devices/emulator.html and install the .apk file into that. However, if you are not computer savvy, you will probably find this too difficult.

See my reply - there are at least three other applications that use apk files other than Android...

First off, there is a possibility android use APK to install, not run.

But there are also programs, and if you can get Linux alongside windows, you can get Android X86.

Considering the fact you are not very good with technical details, just have a try installing android studio and run the emulator. (You should be grateful you can double-click a file and be run through a setup, I quit trying to get android studio on my Linux pc).

Or if you apk is not in the Google play store, you can find an emulator that supports loading an APK, like GenyMotion.
