Can't run old Basic, GWBasic, and TurboBasic Programs

I have old Basic, GWBasic, and TurboBasic programs that I need to run, but they won't run in full screen mode.  I keep getting the following notification "This system does not support full screen mode.  Choose 'close' to terminate the application"....  They used to run under Windows XP, SP 3.  I have tried all the combinations in the Compatibility Tab of the Properties Pop-Up window, including all the previous windows from 95 to Vista SP 2 as well as none (un-checking the box).  I have selected all combinations of the settings choices one at a time and in combinations, including all the disable choices, as well as none (all unchecked).  The programs will come up in the old 25 line, 80 column window, but I need the "full screen" graphics mode of 640 by 480, but that choice too does not work.

In one answer in the forum there are comments about disabling the "infrastructure features" on the "tools menu" but I can't find that specific choice in any of my searches and trials.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated, as I don't look forward to recoding them all.

They will run under DosBox, but they run slower than you might like.

I have about 30 in-depth programs that I wrote and compiled under MS QuickBasic years ago and compiled them as stand-alone .exe files. Unfortunately Microsoft no longer supports Quick Basic and the programs will not run under Vista or 7. They will run under DOS Box, but they run too slowly there. My programs are very complex. They actually deal with individual pixels on the screen.

I would like to convert them to another language, or even rewrite them, but Microsoft claims that they don't have a program to support this. They said perhaps I could do it in Visual Studio Professional, but they want about $700 for that software.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

    Hello rrnman,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.

Since Windows XP mode does not work for you and your older applications, I would suggest your search on "virtualization programs" for Windows 7.

You might be able to use a 3rd party software solution that would allow you to run your programs.

    Hope this helps.

If these are running in the command prompt then the ability to run full screen was removed. In fact it was removed when Vista was released.

Depending on the version of Windows 7 and your computers ability to run hardware virtualization, you could try XP mode.
