After installing Windows 8 I am no longer to play a music CD, the optical drive is not recognized. The driver properties box gives this error message:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" I am ready to remove Windows 8 from my computer and go back to what works for me, Windows 7.

    Hi,

    I'm guessing that this is a Toshiba...if so, you need to uninstall two programs from Toshiba.

    TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

    TOSHIBA Disc Creator

    Hi,

    I don't have a clue as to why you got an error trying to uninstall...I've not heard that before.

    You could try this registry edit...it was provided as a fix by another poster as an answer to his problem.

    It is also similar to fixes suggested on Toshiba's website....But first because it may be easier...look at this link concerning a TODDSRV.exe file...look in your taskmanager to see if it is running.

    If so, right click on it and select "Open File Location" and rename or delete the file.

    QUOTE....

    I have solved this issue (for now), and I was lucky in that I had two laptops, one for each of my children and both installed with win8. One recognised the Drive the other did not.

    1. Went to the Key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    The problem machine had 0000 to 0007 ...The good machine did not

    Deleted all but 0000

    1. In the problem machine an entry for UpperFilters ... the working machine did not

    I removed upperFilters Entry

    1. Reboot

    Hi,

    I'm guessing that this is a Toshiba...if so, you need to uninstall two programs from Toshiba.

    TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

    TOSHIBA Disc Creator

    Your guess is correct, TOSHIBA.

    I tried as you suggested, this is the error code I received when I tried to uninstall TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

     Error Code: -5001 : 0x80070002

    Error Information:

    >SetupNew\setup.cpp (1187)

    PAPP:TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

    PVENDOR:TOSHIBA CORPORATION

    PGUID:B65BBB06-1F8E-48F5-8A54-B024A9E15FDF

    $16.0.0.400

    @Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 0 (9200)

    IE Version: 9.10.9200.16453

    TOSHIBA Disc Creator is not installed.

    Thank you for your response to my issue, do you have any other ideas?
