Previously working USB devices and VPN cient app are not working now

I am trying to connect same 2.0 USB devices and Cisco's AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client app on my Win7 64-bit OS and OS is not recognizing them. I can hear the sound when I plugin devices and can see an icon in 'Devices and Printers' but when I open the explorer USBs don't appear Although 'Devices and Printers' show the icon, the 'Browse files' context menu does not show up anything but its properties tells me it is occupying some drive (like H:\ or something). If I plugin the device before OS starts, that device gets recognized.

VPN Client always fails to login.

Any ideas?

    Hi Sandeep,

    Thanks for the reply.

Please find below my answers for your questions:

    ·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

[Aravind] No, except installing few standard applications (like installing Samsung smart phone app, etc.,) and Win7 OS patches, there are no major s/w changes and no hardware changes at all.

    ·         Do you get any error message?

[Aravind] No, I don't get any error message except the erroneous behavior as explained in my previous mail.

NOW THE PROBLEM IS WORSE: earlier I was able to work with the pen drive if it was installed before system start; but now it is not working even in that state.

    ·         Is the issue confined to any particular USB device?

[Aravind] No, same behavior is observed with all USB devices except keyboard. And all those pen drives are working fine in another system.

    I followed your steps:

    • uninstalled all USB controllers and restarted system but still facing same issue
    • uninstalled and re-installed Cisco AnyConnect VPN s/w but still no luck.

    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Aravind Chembeti

    Hi Aravind Chembeti,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Communities. From the problem description I understand that you are not able to access USB devices and VPN client app. Provide the following information:

    ·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

    ·         Do you get any error message?

    ·         Is the issue confined to any particular USB device?

    Follow these methods.

    For the USB device issue:

**Method 1:**Run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

Method 2: Update the latest chipset drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Method 3: Uninstall and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

    a)    Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

    b)    Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

    c)    Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

    d)    Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

    e)    Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

For the VPN client app issue:

**Uninstall**and re-install the application and check.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.
