I have still the earlier mentioned problem (on your site) with Aten UC232A serial converter in windows 8 update. The installing sotware from Aten stopped, because the installer doesn't accept windows 8!

My problem is solved through the supplier Aten. The supplier send me a new driver set (PL2303Driver_ATEN_v3430230_INF) for the converter. So I install them manually the converter and it works.

Happily, I can disordered my new hardware this morning.

So it was a software (driver) problem.

    Hello,

The driver from the website works, but it is checks the system version.

I circumvented this check by downloading it on Win 7 x64 machine, running the setup & then you can find the actual package without the version check in the %temp% folder.

    Win7_x64.exe

ofc if you do not have a win7 x64 system you are a bit stuck.

I have already contacted aten and informed them of the fix, but for the moment they only have the manual driver you can download from there ftp: ftp://uc232a:******@ftp.aten.be/UC232A\_win8\_INF.zip

but if you like the installer like me, you have to look into virtual machine, of fooling the initial installer in thinking your machine is Win 7 x64.

I assume that similar fix can work for x32 bit systems.

    Happy circumventing :-)

    Hi

the Aten UC232A uses a prolific chip and, if the chip version is not the PL2303HXD it will not be supported by Windows 8.

You must use win 7 or XP and download a small tool supplyed by prolific to check the chip version. this tool is supplyed when you download the win7/XP driver.

Thank you for your fast answer.

Windows didn't see the converter. He needs a driver from Aten. I pick up the latest installation version from the Aten supplier.

I run the following exe from supplier Aten: UC232A_Windows_Setup_V1.0.075.exe

The exe stops with the message: For Windows 7/Vista/XP only

I saw the same problem from a couple of testers in the pre-realease version of windows 8
