It's not in 'Services' as suggested, it's in 'Startup'... Uncheck 'Microsoft Intellipoint' and 'Ok' it. Sorted!

Hi, I was scratching my OCD-like itch of optimizing my main workstation and I found out that I have ipoint.exe (the IntelliPoint process) running. Given that I do not presently own a Microsoft mouse I see no reason for it to run. I'm quite sure I had both Intellipoint (had an MS mouse in the past) and Intellitype installed in the past before updating to the more unified Mouse and Keyboard Center so maybe the process/service is a leftover from that time. I don't want to uninstall the Center altogether due to using my Sidewinter keyboard but I'd appreciate any info on why the process runs and if its is possible to disable it. Thanks for your time.

The applications start from the task scheduler. There you will find various entries referring to this.
You can disable them there
Hi,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft community.
I understand that you want the ipoint.exe not run on your computer as you have stopped using the hardware that was associated with it.
I would suggest that you follow the steps so that you can disable it from the Startup items.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
As I mentioned in my follow-up post there is no such entry under the Startup list either.
Thanks for answering!
However I'm afraid there isn't a service called ipoint.exe in my msconfig (nor any service being named as a file. The only services that I have from Microsoft that begin with "i" are :
-IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules
-Interactive Services Detection
-IP Helper
-IPsec Policy Agent
(not sure how much that's going to help).
I had a look at all the services provided by Microsoft in that list and couldn't find anything that looked connected to the mouse (apart from the Human Interface Device Access which as far as I know shouldn't be disabled). Obviously nothing under the StartUp tab either.
In any case thanks for trying to help.
