Drag and Drop to Command Window Does NOT Work

In Windows 7, I was able to drag and drop a file or folder to an open command prompt window and the full path to the file/folder is inserted at the command prompt.  This was convenient so I can have one command window open as I'm working and I can easily navigate where needed by dragging any file/folder to it.  This no longer works in Windows 8.  I have Windows 8 Professional installed.

    Someone has answer for this

    https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=10198&sliceId=1

Section IV: Disable UAC in Registry -- Back up the registry first; see Related resources

    1. Press WINDOWS KEY + R
    2. Type regedit
    3. Click OK
    4. Click Yes if prompted
    5. Go up to the top to File and then down to Export and save a backup somewhere you will remember
    6. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    7. In the right pane, double-click EnableLUA
    8. Change Value Data to 0
    9. Click OK
    10. Close the Registry Editor
    11. Restart the computer

**Note:**To re-enable UAC, repeat these steps, but on Step 8 change Value Data to 1

    AYC

For the vast majority of users it does (btw I dont work for MS, just a volunteer here) but for power users sometimes we have to get used to doing things a different way.

I have for dozens of things in win 8

Believe me, I get it.  But, no need to "fix" what isn't broken and definitely no need to get rid of it or change it for the worse.  The new UI is fine for touch devices and that's great, but you gotta consider the vast number of, not only power users, but developers and other technical staff who are being set back with new features that are making things less productive.

Anyway, I can go on for hours and days on this topic as it's not only Windows 8 that suffers from this, e.g., Visual Studio 2012.

I have no problem doing things a different way, I'm used to that as things progress.  But when "different" means slower and less productive, then we've got a big problem.

Thanks for volunteering by the way.  Much appreciated. :)

no longer works in Windows 8

Making it consistent with PowerShell ISE?   I don't know what is more disappointing a drop which doesn't work or a drop which is always denied.   ; ]

Hmm...  I found a way.   (Quirks abound.)    From an Administrator: Command Prompt open Powershell.    Result:  Administrator: Windows PowerShell.   Problem:  I can not drag and drop a folder from a WE window.   So, next open ISE.   Use its Open button to navigate to wherever you want.   Drag and drop from that Open dialog to the Administrator: Windows PowerShell window.   Result:  the full path in the command line as if you had typed or pasted it there.

Aha.   The same trick works for cmd.    So, it's a path from an ISE Open dialog not from a Windows Explorer Address bar or Folders bar.    Weird.   Thanks for making me find this.

    FYI

That is a nice find, but I thought Windows 8 was supposed make us more productive. ;)
