APPCRASH - what does this mean and how can we fix it?

I bought a game that I have to download.  Every time I try to get on the launcher it doesn't let me.  I click on the icon for the game and reads that the launcher has stopped working.  The company spent considerable time troubleshooting with me.  They say its not a problem with the game.  When I view problem details it says the problem event name is:  APPCRASH.  We run Windows 7.  We also get this same message APPCRASH occasionally when we are surfing the web and forwarding our emails - in windows live mail.  Please advise on this APPCRASH problem.

Thanks!!

Scott

    Hi Scott,

Thank you for contacting us in Microsoft Community.

There are many source of your problem.

Example, there might be some corrupt system files on the computer for the cause of the appcrash error.

You also need to check the event viewer for additional information related to the issue and let us know about the same.

    Open Event Viewer

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-Event-Viewer

Which web browser are you using?

Now, let’s try the following and check the functionality of the issue.

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

Boot the computer in safe mode with networking and check for the issue.

Some options, such as safe mode, start Windows in a limited state, where only the bare essentials are started. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services as possible causes.

Follow this below provided link to start your computer in safe mode.

    Step 2:

Place the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 3 from the above provided KB article.

    Method 2:

You may always run a SFC scan.

The system file checker (SFC) utility allows administrators to perform a scan of all protected resources to verify that they are the correct version. If SFC should find any incorrect versions in any of these protected resources, SFC will replace them with the correct versions.

To run a SFC scan follow the steps below:
