Error Code 0x80070057 when entering website location into credential manager which ended with.org

When using Credental Manager in Windows 7 and registering the address of the website location I get an Error Code 0x80070057 which says:  "Windows cannot save this information. Make sure the information is correct and that all fields are completed" It also gives the above Error Code:" 0x80070057" & Error Message: "The parameter is incorrect".  I did fill in my User name and Password prior to getting this error message prior to trying to enter the information. This only happens when the website address ends with: " .org".  I have been successful in entering website locations with the: ".com" designation without a problem. The above entries were being placed in the Windows Credential Vault section.  I did not try this in the Certificate-Based credentials or Generic Credential Vault sections because I don't fully understand what these titles mean.  I have been unable to find any material explaining the the complete workings of the Credential Manager Vault program or some of the meanings of the terms used.  I also do not understand how the Passwords and User Names are entered automatically when I go to the specific web site where they would be used to Sign In. I also do not know if the Error Code was started with a capital O or a zero 0.  I tried researching both but now I am thouroughly confused.  Any help would be appreciated to solve this problem or information that will explain the program a little better. Thank you in advance

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

As per the description, whenever you try to access websites ends with ".org" you receive error message saying “The parameter is incorrect 0x80070057”. However, the information you provided seems to be incorrect because web browser does not display such error message if unable to access any webpage.

To help you suggest steps to resolve the issue, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1.       Which web browser are you using?

    2.       Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

However, if you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser and unable to access websites ends with ".org" then you may follow steps from the article mentioned below and check if that works.

Rather than putting your details in "Windows Credentials", what happens if you enter the details under "Generic Credentials"?  Does it work as you want it to, and get you into passworded sites, or does it do nothing?

    Generic Credentials

Generic credentials are defined and authenticated by applications that manage authorization and security directly instead of delegating these tasks to the operating system. For example, an application can require users to enter a user name and password provided by the application or to produce a certificate to access a website.

Applications use Credentials Management functions to prompt users for application-defined, generic, credential information, such as user name, certificate, smart card, or password. The information entered by the user is returned to the application for authentication.

I may not have explained my problem correctly. (1.) I am using Internet Explorer 9 (64bit version also),Version 9.0.8112.16421, Update Versions 9.0.12, Cipher strength 256 bit..  (2.) I have not made any changes on the computer prior to the issue.

I have no problem accessing any websites ending with .org or any other address designation such as  .com,  etc.  My problem was not with the web browser. The problem was getting the Credential Manager to accept any website address with .org designation.   I read some of the FAQs and double checked the manual/automatic setting for the Credential Manager. After going over the process to make sure the settings were, as reccomended and restarting my computer, the .org problem ceased.  No more Error Messages as I described. The credential Manager began to recognize the .org and all other designation  endings like .com, etc.  This Error Message came up when trying to enter a website address in the (ADD A WINDOWS CREDENTIAL Section) in the Windows Vault area of the Credential Manager Program.  I am sorry if I did not explain the problem correctly. This problem is solved. Thank you for your effort.

    RELATED PORBLEM is as follows.

In the WINDOWS VAULT section of the CREDENTIAL MANAGER  when trying to enter a website address, starting with (https:// or http://) along with my user name and password, into the ADD A WINDOWS CREDENTIAL section the following ERROR MESSAGE pops up.

                                                  CREDENTIAL MANAGER ERROR

Windows cannot save this information. Make sure the

information is correct and that all required fields are completed.

    Error Code: Ox80070057

Error Message: The parameter is incorrect

I have attempted to enter the Website Address begining with http:// & https:// in countless ways using the www. designation with and without the http:// and https:// designations with no success. Always get above Error Message.  This was the same problem I had with the .org problem above. I am still talking about this problem in the Credential Manager program  & not my Internet Explorer.

Last question which had not been answered in my first writing:  What do I have to do to get the Credential Manager program to automatically place my user name and password in the sign in section of the website where I need or want to do that because I have a member  status or account with that designated website?

Sorry to be such a bother but I would like to solve this problem and learn how this program works. I am still having a problem finding directions for this program.  Thank you in advance.

No I am not using any  encryption software on this machine.  I only use IE 9, 32 bit version of Internet explorer because it is the default. I very rarely use the 64 bit IE.  I do not use the IE 9, 64 bit, when I am going to websites where I need to sign in.   I really do not think this is an issue.  I will read what you have sent me and what I have read, so far, does not seem to apply to the http:// & https:// entries question that brings up the Error messages  I indicated.

I still do not have an answer to how I go about activating the Vault lists so they will automatically sign me into the listed websites in the Credential Management program.  I have researched and researched and still cannot find how to activate the Vault list.  Could you point the way to the information so I can get the program to work as I have been advised.  I will continue reading what you have sent me, but, as I said, it does not appear that any of what I have read, applies to a solution to  my questions.

    Thanks' again, please advise.

Are you using any encryption software on this machine?  See these examples of your type of error and possible resolutions.

Even though you are a 64-bit machine the Default IE 8 or 9 should be the 32-bit version.  That is the version that runs by default on 64-bit machines.  If you use that version then the problems might vanish.
