windows 8 stuck on installing update

I've had my PC for just over a year. I upgrade to windows 8 pro when it became available. Every time I need to restart it, the PC installs an update. The concerning thing is that these updates can take hours. I once installed restarted the PC at 10 am, and it was done installing around 5am the next morning. All I see for this period is:

keep your PC plugged in until this is done

installing update

what's worse is that when it turns on, I get the lock screen, I then enter my password, and I get a black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse, but I don't get the start screen. I have to do a hard shutdown on the PC, then reboot it. Then after 3 or four times, it finally loads the start screen and everything is fine.

I hope someone can help

My computer is running Windows 8.  It hangs up while attempting to install an update.  The message on the screen reads, "Keep your PC plugged in until this is done.  Installing Updates "X" of "X". "

So, obviously, I don't shut the computer off.  But the problem is that I will let it stay in this stuck position for hours and hours.  Even all night long, and when I come back the next day, nothing has changed.

Even if I turn the computer off and on again, it returns to the same screen in the same 'stuck' position.  I can't open up Windows to attempt any of the solutions offered.

I have two brand new identical HP desktop computers running Windows 8, and I have had the same problem on BOTH computers at different times.  These are the only solutions that have actually worked for me:

    1)      UNPLUGGING the computer.  This worked on one computer.  I was able to turn it OFF first.  Then unplug it from the power and the internet.  Let it sit for a few minutes, then turn it back on again.

    2)      Same as above AND pressing the ‘ESC’ key repeatedly immediately after turning the computer on, until the MENU appeared that allowed me to select “System Recovery”.  From that point I was able to restart the machine once more and everything returned to normal.  This worked on the second computer, as unplugging it did not help at all (it returned to the same screen in that stuck position)

I am not a computer tech guy, but this sure helped me and I hope it helps someone else out there, because it seems to me that others are having the same problem.

I've had enough with the Windows bs. Everyday it's something new. Constant bsod messages and update problems. I shouldn't have to be a tech wiz to use my pc.

    Hi,

Thank you for opting Windows 8 and providing an opportunity to help you.

I would ask some questions to resolve the query:

    1. Are all the Windows Updates installed successfully?
    2. Does the issue occur every time you turn ON the computer?

Please follow the steps in context of this issue:

    Step 1:

I would suggest you to check if the updates are installed successfully.

    Please refer to the link:

Refer to the section”Do I need to check for updates “and “How will I know what updates have been installed

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-update-faq

    Step 2:

I will also suggest you to run the Windows update troubleshooter.Refer to the link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates

    Step 3:

Follow step 1 again to check for the installed updates again.

Please reply us if the query does not gets resolved.

Yes after the long hours the updates are installed correctly, it just takes forever. Also it does take this long every time I restart the PC. But since the problem started occurring, obviously I try not to shut the PC down.

By the why, I've tried the steps, they do not work.
