Creating a zip file in office 2010/windows 8

I am trying to create a zip file from a large PDF file to email. Under libraries, after highlighting the file, I open the share tab and right click on the ZIP icon but nothing happens? Does anyone else have this problem? Is there any other way to create a zip file in windows 8?

Why not just right-click the file in the library folder and select "Send To ..." then "Compressed (ZIPped) Folder"?  That's how it's been done since about Windows XP or so and how it's done under Windows 7.

Hmmm ... you haven't run a registry cleaner or performance optimizer or some such recently have you?

Open an elevated command prompt (Run as Administrator) and type the following two lines:

    REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL
    assoc .zip=CompressedFolder

Further thoughts...I think it might have something to do with an application for .cdfms missing as my library folders will not open up either.

Unfortnately this does not work either as the compressed ZIP folder does not come up. Have just spent 1.5 hours online with sony who sold me the computer who were basically useless. But they did find a place called App Data/Roaming/microsoft/windows/sent to/ where the

compressed (zipped) folder file was found but inactive...it does not seem to have an application attached to it.and my application finder is not helpful. How do I activate it?

(And how to I find that place on the computer again?!)

    Many thnx
