Even with max volume and 30DB boost, mic is quiet

I have the mic volume on the max (100) setting, and the 30DB boost, yet it is still too quiet to listen too. I want to record for videos but when i came to do it i noticed this problem. It happens with three different headsets and i have re-installed the Realtek HD audio drivers many times, different versions too. I have also re-installed my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit... all of this to no avail.

Therefore the problem either lies within windows 64-bit or the Realtek Audio drivers, but surely most of the versions of the Realtek HD audio drivers aren't buggy are they?

This is also an issue with my laptop which has the same O/S on it. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

It is not the recording software i have used either, i have tried the Microsoft recorder, audacity and fraps. Of which they all record me with next to no volume, you can barely hear me.

What are you recording with?

Check the Realtek audio manager for any special options.

Be sure the microphone is plugged into the Microphone port and not Line In.

Try talking directly into the microphone.

When testing, look at the Recording Devices list to verify input level.

    ...

The main reason i asked here was because a lot of people was reporting this problems while using windows 7 64-bit, like me. But to be honest i think it may be the REALTEK HD AUDIO CODEC/Drivers, i may just go and buy a sound card to see if that will fix the problem... any recommendations that don't use REALTEK drivers are welcome.

Could you please let us know if that worked out for you or if you found another solution? After months of searching I have determined that my only hope is to either buy a new soundcard or upgrade to windows 8. I have definitely seen people with soundcards that do NOT use realtek still having issues with sound quality in win7, so if you have found a setup that does work please please post it here?

Not having sound issues, its purely microphone recording issues. Three different microphones on two different machines have issues. First is an alienware m11x laptop, the built in laptop mic works reasonably, but with any headset mic's it is barely audible.

    The second machine is about 2 months old, brand new and these are its specs;

    Phenom II x6 @ 3.3Gz

ASUS Crosshair V 990FX - RoG Series (Onboard sound)

    8GB 1600MHz G-Skill RipjawX RAM

    Radeon HD 6950 2GB IceQ x Turbo x

    Corsair Gaming Series 800W PSU

    Samsung 1TB 7200RPM

Both the custom pc and the laptop are using different versions of windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, from two separate disks and when trying to record using either microsoft windows sound recorder, audacity or fraps the sound is amazingly low.

All of the drivers are functionable, and with a 100% volume and 30DB boost, i can be just about heard, but the white noise drowns me out making it useless.

I have seen all the threads you have posted before, as i have had a good look around to see if any fixes have been issued, the ones that have been, such as the decibel boost or the 'exclusive control' i have already tried before looking online as i have a pretty strong understanding of computer hardware and software.
