Windows 7 will not boot, safemode and startup repair failed.

So, I shutdown my PC yesterday, and when booting it back up I found that windows would not start. I immediately attempted to boot into safemode only to find that f8 only brings up a boot device selection screen and when windows fails to boot it only gives me the option to use the startup repair tools. I've tried to run these multiple times off both an install CD and the computer itself, and every time it generates this error code:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline

Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 03: unknown

Problem Signature 04:21200884

Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover

Problem Signature 06: 6

Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

Locale ID: 1033

Directly after attempting to run Startup Repair I attempted to use System Restore in the advanced recovery options to revert to a previous state. every time I tried this it failed, with 4 different restore points.

I have also tried running dism.exe to check if any updates failed and needed to be cleared, and none were pending/errored. Also ran sfc.exe which told me that it had a "repair pending" and that I needed to reboot the machine. now, rebooting changes nothing.

What now?

    Hi Fwffeh,

    Step 1

Since you were unable to get the option to boot in safe mode I would suggest you to follow the steps below and check if you can get the option to boot in Safe mode.

    1. Power on the computer and keep tapping F8 key.
    2. In the boot device select hard drive and press enter.
    3. Immediately start tapping F8 key.
    4. You should see the option to boot in safe mode.
    5. Once you see the option to boot in safe mode select it and press enter.

Check if you can boot to the desktop and perform a system restore from Safe mode.

    Step 2

You may access the link below and follow the steps and try to boot the computer in last know good configuration and check if it works.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-Last-Known-Good-Configuration

    Step 3

Run chkdsk on your computer and check if it helps you fix the issue.

    1. Boot the computer from Windows 7 disk.
    2. To run check disk you need to restart the computer and boot into WINRE mode (Windows Recovery Environment).
    3. You will have to select repair your computer.
    4. Select command prompt.
    5. Type the command chkdsk C: /f /r and press enter

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.

    Thanks and Regards,

Hey I have the same problem. I made my computer go to sleep and when i tried to restart windows wouldnt load. I have tried most of the solutions mentioned. Still nothing. I cant boot into safe mode either. Is there any another step to make my windows load without reinstalling?

So I've done some more web searching and used osme suggested things to no avail..

In the system recovery it still gives me: "Problem Signature 07: CorruptVolume"

    using the command prompt;

SFC /scannow = System repair pending, requires reboot

    chkdsk /f /r =Found no problems

    bootrec.exe /fixmbr = completed successfully

    bootrec.exe /fixboot = completed successfully

    bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd = Total identified windows installs = 0

Then as suggested selected 'System repair" three times continously... still tells me that the system cannot automatucally repair itself.

    ***arrghghghgh So much frustration..

Initially, the system restore diagnosis was a corrupt registry.

So I was wondering if that is even the problem anymore, or whether it is the harddrive.. (even though chkdsk says the drive has no problems)

Since I now have another HDD with Windows installed, I was wondering if I can hook up the old HDD that I'm trying to fix and copy over the required registry lines.?

    Srinivas,

I am having a similar issues. As you can see the user above said he could access save mode. When in start up repair Windows 7 does not allow this. Are there any other options?
