how do I open disk?
Hi Henry,
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.
From your description I understand your query is to know how to access and transfer content of flash drive to your Windows 8 computer.
In order to assist you better please provide information on these questions:
1) What happens exactly when you connect the flash drive to your computer?
2) Do you receive any error message?
3) Are you able to access the flash drive on other computers?
4) What is the make and model of your Flash drive?
I would like you to try out few methods to resolve the issue:
Method 1: Steps to open a Flash drive.
a) Plug your USB flash drive into the open port. Line the rectangular metal "plug" end of the flash drive up with the USB port so that the two USB icons are facing each other.
b) Wait a few seconds for your computer to "recognize" the drive. When your drive is ready to use, a notification window will appear.
c) Click on the "Computer" utility (found in the "Start" menu) and then find your flash drive in the list of "Devices with Removable Storage." The USB flash drive should be named "Removable Disk." Double-click on it to open the flash drive's contents in a new window.
d) Drag files you want to save on the flash drive into the window. If you want to move pre-existing files from the flash drive onto your computer, you can drag them out of the window on to your desktop. If you simply want to open a file from the flash drive, you can double-click on it.
Note: When you are finished using your USB flash drive, find the USB flash drive icon in the system tray, right-click on it and then select "eject drive." You can then disconnect the drive from the computer.
If you face issues connecting flash drive to your computer follow the suggested methods below:

b) Locate the **Universal Serial Bus controllers’**driver.
c) Right Click on the USB driver icon and select Uninstall.
d) Restart the computer. After restarting the computer, USB driver will automatically be installed.
