The printer always go into offline after sleep mode.  I cannot find a way to turn it back online except delete and reinstall the printer again. I cannot use the network discovery for the printer. Even it show up on the discovery, error occurs that the computer cannot connect to the printer. However, I use local mode and select the remote printer port and reinstall the printer drivers, everything back to normal and printer is online again. There must be an easier way to do this.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you have provided, I understand that printer goes to offline mode after computer resuming from sleep mode in Windows 7. I will certainly help you with this issue.

Disable power management of the USB hub, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Start, click on Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. The Device Manager window opens.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click a USB Root Hub in the list, and then click on Properties. The USB Root Hub Properties dialog box is displayed.
  4. Click the Power Management tab.
  5. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click on OK.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each USB Root Hub in the list.
  7. On the Action menu, click on Scan for hardware changes.

Windows 7 recognizes the new device.

  1. Close the Device Manager window.

If this doesn’t work, follow the Advanced troubleshooting steps from the Microsoft Knowledge Base article below.

Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Srinivas, thanks for instructions, but can you explain how USB settings apply to a networked device (accessed through a network interface, which is a separate branch in the device manager)?
