I have Windows 7 Professional. I used Windows Movie Maker from June 2012 to the middle of January 2013 with no issues. I was downloading videos from my Android phone with no issues. Since the middle of January, something changed. The audio is running quicker than the video and it sounds like chipmunk voices. It sounds distorted when I slow down the audio speed to match the video.
I have tried repairing Movie Maker. I uninstalled/reinstalled Movie Maker. I haven't downloaded any new programs on my computer since November of 2012. I uploaded videos from my Droid phone in December and the first part of January with no issues.
I don't know if it could be a codec issue or not, but I don't know much about codecs and what I would one(s) I would need or how to tell. Help me please!!!

I sent you a private message with my system information as you suggested.
Hi jgoldend,
Thanks for the detailed information you provided. I would like to collect logs of your Movie Maker so we can determine the cause of the video and audio syncing problem. For the instructions, kindly refer to my message on the private message area. You need to sign in to Microsoft Community to see Private Messages button in line with All Replies.

Uninstalled/reinstalled the latest version of WMM. The video format is supported, MP4. Ran a codec diagnostic and found one potential problem, Real Player Shell Extension Codec, disabled and same result. I believe my video cards are up to date but not sure how to determine if they are.
As I mentioned before, everything was working fine until the middle of January. The only thing I have changed was to my phone. I enabled the option called "Video stabilization - reduces hand shaking during video capture".
However, I have an older laptop at home that is a Vista and runs an older WMM version and it works just fine. No issue with the audio not being synched. If I convert the video into a different format, it works. However, the video quality diminishes and looses integrity.
HELP!
Hi jgoldend,
We are happy to assist you in dealing with this issue wherein the audio on the video you created does not sync with its video. For us to isolate the issue, please:
1. Ensure that you have the latest version for Windows Movie Maker. You can download the latest version here.
2. Check that the files you are using are of a supported format – Some file formats are not supported by Movie Maker. A list of supported formats can be found here.
3. Ensure that you have the proper codecs to play your videos and au****dio files. Audio and Video require codecs to play the file and it’s important to have the right codecs installed or updated in your PC.
· Try running the Microsoft Fix It tool for codecs.
· Media info will be able to identify the codec required for your audio and video files, and will provide a link to the website for the required codec. You can get It here.
Note*: If you can't find the codec you need you may convert the video to a supported format (eg. wmv) and then add it to your Movie Maker project.*
4. Ensure that your video card drivers are up to date. Movie Maker makes extensive use of the video card GPU (graphics processing unit). The display driver affects the reliability, performance, and compatibility of the video card with various software.
To determine the version and video card driver date, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag):
a. Click on Start button and type dxdiag in the Search programs and files box and press Enter key on the keyboard.
b. Click on the Display tab and you will see the driver details including the driver version.
c. If your video card driver seems outdated please go to the video card driver manufacturer and see if a newer version is available.
Thanks!
