Attempts to Connect to Google Earth results in a message "Google Earth has encoutered a problem and needs to close" and promptly does.

I have been using Google Earth without trouble with Windows XP and Internet Explorer for years but this problem has only occurred in the last week or so.

The closure message as an option to "View Technical Information" which displays:

Diagnostic Report file name

D: Docume~1\Mike\Locals~\Temp\Google_Earth_7.0.2.8415_130129_083635_1.dmp

Report file successfully sent: YES

Diagnostic message sent: YES

This file name is repeated on all attempts to open Google Earth with changes only to the two groups of 6 digits.

The closure message also offers the option "Learn about resolving crashes" which links to:

"Resolving crashing and graphics issues on Windows machines"

A third option suggests "a corrupt my places.kml file that is craching your system on launch"

Step1. Clearing your cache

If you are unable to login the following procedure is suggested for Windows XP users:

Double click My Computer - Tools - Folder Options -Click View Hidden Files and Folders - OK

Look for data files in C:\Documents and Settings%Username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Earth

Right click dbCache.dat and dbCache.dat index - Delete - Yes.

I located these files on D: and deleted them, also files of the same name appended 1 and 2.

After shutting down and restarting the PC, I again tried to start Google Earth with precisely the same result.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled Google Earth (several times on different occasions) with the same result.

Can someone tell me what is wrong and how to put it right?

    Hello Sathish

I did have AVG security software installed on my PC, although it has been disabled for a week or more.

I have attempted to uninstall this but although the desk top icons disappeared and AVG Uninstaller reported that it had been successfully removed from my computer, AVG 2013 (size 77.97MB) was still shown in the Currently Installed Programs list. I repeated this 3 times with restarts after each but the result was the same.

The only perceived change was that the 7006 system errors shown in the Event Viewer on restart have now changed to 7003 and 7024, with properties:

"The AVG ID Agent Service depends on the following non existant service AVG IDS Driver" and " The AVG Watchdog Service terminated with the specific error----"

I am still unable to download and run Google Earth, it appears that AVG is causing a problem. How can I completely remove it?

    Mike

    Hello Mike,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

    -          Do you have AVG security software installed on your computer?

I would suggest you to perform the troubleshooting steps from the link “"Event ID: 7000" or "Event ID: 7013" Error Message When You Attempt to Start a Service” and then check how it works.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issue with Windows please do post it in Microsoft Community. W e would be happy to help you.

    Hello Sathish

    Thank you for your suggestions.

    a.

I followed the link which invited me to download Google Earth Pro, which I do not want, but downloaded and signed up for a free trial.

When I attempted to run it, the Google Earth page appeared as usual followed by a request for the license key which I have yet to receive by email. Behind this the usual message "Google Earth has encountered a problem etc." and Google Earth shut down.

    This Issue still persists.

    b

I ran the fixit for issues related to "Layer Gateway Services"

After restart I am still getting the following System Errors shown on the Event Viewer:

Service Control Manager 7006. (This occurrs in identical pairs simultaneously)

"The ScRegSetValue failed for Failure Actions with the following error - Access is Denied"

Service Control Manager 7009 (This occurrs a few minutes after 7006)

"Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Application Layer Gateway Service to connect"

Sevice Control Manager 7000 (This occurrs almost simultaneously with 7009)

"The Application Layer Gateway service did not start due to the following error - The Service did not respond in a timely fashion"

All the above System errors gave the link http//go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp for further information. I have not yet followed this.

    Any other ideas?

    Mikem

    Hello Mike,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

I would suggest you to perform a Flat installation of Google earth and then check if this fixes the issue.

    Follow these steps:

    a.       Download Google Earth from the following link and save it on local disk.

    http://www.google.co.in/earth/download/gep/agree.html

    b.      Once the download is completed, run the setup file and check how it works.

Run the fixit from the link “"Error 1068" Error Message When You Try to Turn On Internet Connection Sharing” to fix issues related to “Layer Gateway Service”.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists, please do reply. We would be happy to help you further.

    Hello Sathish,

Thank you again for your help.

I have created a new user account and used it to reinstall Google Earth.

Attempts to run Google Earth with the new user acccount fail, with the usual message "Google Earth has encountered a problem and must close".

The usual system errors are also shown on the Event Viewer when using the new account.

It would appear that both accounts are operating identically and that neither (or both) are corrupt.

I have experienced other system errors on start up on either account:

"Windows Media Player Network Sharing Tool Service failed ---",

    "Layer Gateway Service failed ---"

These are not regularly occurring and do not appear to affect my normal operation.

I have not found any programs/ files that I cannot open other than Google Earth.

    What next?

    Mikem
