Original title: Java TM plug-in SSV helper

I have a Windows Vista HomePremium 32 bit computer system and my  Browser version is IE9.

I just reinstalled Java and I was asked if I wanted to enable or disable the  Java TM plug-in SSV helper I disabled it for now. What is it and what does it do.

Should I enable it?

Jerry

The SSV helper plug-in is NOT required to run java apps in your browser. It is separate from the JRE, which you do need. Unless you are in a corporate environment and you have been specifically instructed by your IT department to enable the plug-in SSV helper, you are better off not enabling it.

    Hi Jerry,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Based on the information, you want to know more about Java TM plug-in SSV helper, since you have reinstalled Java and disabled the Java TM plug-in SSV helper.

Java TM plug-in SSV helper is a plug-in that belongs to Java. Java is a programming language. You need something called the Java Runtime Environment to run programs written in Java. The Plugin is part of that. A small number of websites also use this. If it affects the computer performance a lot you could disable it, however, if you visit websites which are using Java, you might need to enable it.

For further information, refer the Java Support article:
