Hi,
I just bought the game and decided to try it tonight but I encounter myself with a problem, the game won't load and it will freeze and close every time I try.
When I try to load it, the Steam window "Performing first time setup..." Installing: xnafx31_redist.msi (step 1 of 1)" pops up and then it freezes showing me another window (this time Win7 window) saying "Magicka has stopped working - Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" and it closes, and nothing else happens.
I performed a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" but it didn't solve the problem.
I tried to install the xnafx31_redist.msi manually and what happens is I get the "Error code 2908" followed by another window error "An error occurred during the installation fo assembly "Microsoft.Xna.Framework,fileVersion="4.0.20823.0",version=4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",publicKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="x86".
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.
HRESULT: 0x8002802F."
I tried to follow this instructions here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_other-gaming/microsoft-xna-framework-redistributable-31-error/c593a966-47aa-4374-b6e5-4f382682be61
But nothing worked.
I tried to clean my registry with other tools, installing .NET framework 4.5... nothing at all works
Anybody has any idea how can I play this game? I'm pretty sure my PC can run it:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

System Model: XFX nForce 790i Ultra 3-Way SLI

Page File: 3084MB used, 13294MB available

2 HD one of 97 GB and the other one of 600 GB with enough free space

Hello Imran M, sorry for the late reply.
Thank you very much for all these suggestions. I've tried them as well but I discovered something worse in my tries. I wasn't able to upgrade the latest graphic cards on windows 7. Every time I tried, windows would stop Nvidia from upgrading my drivers and will install the previous one again.
Doing some research I discovered my problem came from my registry. I tried many things in order to clean it and restore it but nothing worked. At the end of the day I didn't even have graphic card drivers and it was very difficult for me to navigate through internet with everything looking so big!
After thinking about it (and coming back from a trip) I decided it was time to format the pc and start all over again.
Since I've done that, I was able to install the latest graphic cards and play the game =)
I didn't want to get till that point, but after weeks trying and my pc getting worse I think it was the best option I had.
So thank you very much again for taking the time to read my post and help me out with tips. I appreciate it so much.
Ingrid
Hi Ing,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community and giving us opportunity to assist you.
As per the description, you are facing issues with installing the game Magicka and receiving error message saying "An error occurred during the installation for assembly "Microsoft.Xna.Framework,fileVersion="4.0.20823.0",version=4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",publicKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="x86" with error code 2908. In order to provide you with a quick resolution, please reply to this question:
1. Are you able to install other programs?
2. Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
However, I’m glad to provide you with these methods which will help you to fix the issue.
**Method 1:**You may try the Microsoft Fixit mentioned in the following link and check if the issue persists.
Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled
**http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program\_Install\_and\_Uninstall/**
Method 2: I would suggest you to perform clean boot and check if you are able to install game Magicka.
Place the computer in a clean boot state and then check if it helps. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 3from the KB article mentioned above.
**Method 3:**You may try to turn windows features on or off screen and uncheck the .NET framework.
a. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
b. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
c. Browse to .NET framework and uncheck the mark in front of .NET framework.
d. Restart the computer.
e. Repeat the above steps and re-check .NET framework to reinstall it.
f. Restart the computer.
