A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

This just started happening today, didn't install anything to my knowledge. Tried uninstalling & reinstalling but didn't do anything

I applaud you. Microsoft, are you listening? You broke this and need to fix it as there will be many more in the same shape. At least now others who find this post will know how to fix it.

Thank you RolandGilead;

YOU ARE A LEGEND.

You have saved me a whole Windows Reinstall (so, about 1/2 a day) and a whole lot of grief, considering its my HTPC.

If you live in Sydney, I will happily buy you a beer or three!

Alex

    Hi,

I had the same problem on my Win7 pc. I remembered an optional update (KB2670838, plattform update, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838/en-us) that had something to do with Direct2D, H.264 Video Decoder etc.), which had been installed two days earlier.

It is an optional update, so I deinstalled it. After that wmplayer worked fine again.

Of course this is not an explanation of the error, but at least it seems to be a workaround.

It might have something to do with the installed codecs and the changes deployed with this update.

Update (same as my reply from May, 27):

Today I had the same problem again. I did not install KB2670838 (at least I do not remember doing so), so I think that the same "features" are contained in some other update.

Installing the latest catalyst software did not help, so I deinstalled some of the AMD components.

    At first I deinstalled:

    AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding

    AMD Media Foundation Transcoder

    AMD Drag

    Hydravision

    which solved the problem.

(I don't think, that the last two are relevant but I don't need them anyway)

Then I reinstalled AMD Media Foundation Transcoder and the problem was there again (so I deinstalled it once more).

Now I reinstalled AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding and my wmplayer still seems to work fine.

Maybe this will help others as well.
