I am currently using Windows 7 64 bit onmy HP computer.  The system is 3 years old and recently a couple of DLL files have become damaged.  I  The computer works fine and I do not suspect malware or viruses but it takes fooorever to boot and the start up sequense is beyond sow.  I called an IT guy to fix the problem and to do a general overhaul on my system as it has become very slow.  He inicated the the missing DLL files would have to be corrected using system restore or the disk that came with the computer.  I did not receive a recovery disk a(preinstalled software) so I am looking for options.

Could I fix the issue by upgrading to Windows 8 ?  Can I buy a discounted copy of Windows 7 or any other ideas.  I am hoping what ever is suggested will not overwrite all my files, although I am copying my pictures etc to another computer!

Anil:  Thank you very much for your speedy reply!  It is odd I never seem to get any error messages except when I start or reboot the computer.  I like the idea of upgrading to Windows 8 but I am going to do my do diligence and try your other suggestions also.  I agree that those files were corrupted or removed when other programs were deleted.  I surmise that is a cost of business in the modern electronic world!

Again thank you for your time

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.

As per the description provided, I understand that you have performance issues with Windows 7 computer. I will certainly help you on this issue.

I appreciate if you could help me with more information.

    1.      Do you receive any error message/code?

    2.      What is the make and model number of the computer?

If you use a computer frequently, then at one time or another you have probably gotten a message pop up on the screen that says a .dll file is missing. When this happens, you may not be able to load a program or access parts of the Windows operating system. The .dll files could have been removed by a newly installed program, corrupted, deleted or erased because of errors on the hard drive. Try these steps.

    Method 1:

Boot the computer in safe mode and check whether the issue persists, if the issue does not persist then perform Clean Boot and check whether the issue resolves.

    Step 1:

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. Please click on the mentioned link below.

    Step 2:

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "Clean Boot." A Clean Boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After Clean Boot troubleshooting step, refer to “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with Clean Boot” from the article.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to run SFC scan.

Yes you can fix this kind of issues when you upgrade to Windows 8. You can upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8, you will not lose any data.
